LECTURES
Weeks 8 and 9:
There is no class during Independent Learning Week. Dr. Hayati uploaded the lecture notes for us to prepare before our individual tutorials next week.

INSTRUCTIONS
VISUAL DESIGN
Weeks 8 to 9
Countless scrolling on Pinterest has led me to create a slide deck to map out my ideas for the art direction.

Since my research topic is on fast food, I decided to do a menu-style concept. It will also display bright and colourful graphical elements that reflect motion graphics in fast-food advertisements.
Design Attempts/Works in Progress
1. Graphical Elements
I decided to go with a minimal menu look, displaying the elements of fast - food in a subtle way. For this, I designed flat vector style illustrations.

2. Charts
Dr Hayati suggests we design our own charts instead of utilising the ones by Google Forms. This is my first time utilising the charts tool in Adobe Illustrator. This process took so much time I underestimated this part of the design. It took some time to get used to the charts tool.
3. Cover Design Attempts
I designed the layout in black and white first before attempting to include colors.

FEEDBACK
Week 9
No class - lecturer on medical leave.
Week 10
Specific Feedback:
- The menu concept is too typical of an idea based on fast food.
- “How does retro relate to your topic’” - ‘motion graphics’/’advertising’/’animation/’fast-food’
- I could play around with elements of fast food like the wrapper, utensils etc.
- Explore more layout ideas - since I seem to lean toward colourful layouts, I should refer to Paula Scher’s designs.
- In terms of the draft dissertation, it is comprehensive and I have amended it according to the previous tutorial sessions. Although, the project recommendation is brief.
Week 12
Specific Feedback:
Specific Feedback:
- Page numbers can be anywhere, explore the various ways on Pinterest.
- Check on the leading for the body text.
- Don’t go straight into the content after the cover page. Leave out some empty spreads with designs if possible like a real publication. I can do a full yellow spread for instance.
- Dr. Hayati has no issues with my layout ideas, it looks good in black and white, hopefully after adding colors it will still give a good contrast.
