Individual Task
For this task, I used Canva, an online tool that I am most familiar with.
Fig 1.3 Canva Homepage |
I then looked up various infographics that are badly designed and settled on this infographic.
Fig 1.4 Sample of poorly constructed infographic |
This infographic has bad contrast of colors. Some of the fonts can't even be read due to poor color choices. In turn, this loses the communication goal of the infographic. It does have potential with some donut charts and bar charts with a disappearing baseline. However, one can't easily spot it without looking at it in detail due to the same background color being used.
Fig 1.5 Redesigning the infographic |
I broke down the information from the original infographic and arranged them accordingly. I used different charts compared to the previous one. I also worded some titles and subtitles differently and removed any unnecessary wordings.
Fig 1.6 Color Test |
Once I was satisfied with the placement of everything, (words, charts, graphical elements) I tested different color schemes that would best suit the infographic.
Final Outcome

Before/After Comparison
Fig 1.8 Comparison Before (Left) vs. After (Right) |
The information on the redesigned infographic has been summarized and worded out better. I felt some of the captions were unnecessary and some were too long. It is also shorter in size compared to the previous one. The new color choices also look more pleasing to the eyes and most importantly, everything is readable.
Online Tool Rating
Difficulty/Intuitiveness:
4/5
With any software/tools, you still need to practice to get used to the tools and buttons. However, Canva is very user friendly and it is fairly easy to learn. Its easy to navigate and things can easily be found. You just need to do some exploration on the tools.
Usefulness:
5/5
It is extremely useful especially if you have no design background but you still want to produce creative content. Designers can also use this if they are short of time as they won't have to create things from scratch.
Design Templates:
5/5
There are many templates to choose from and a user is spoilt with choices from presentations to social media content and even print products.

FLIP Topic 4: Manuel Lima's 9 Directives Manifesto
I am in Group 1 and we are assigned to create a video presentation for this topic.
Specific Feedback: Ms. Anis commended my redesigned poster. It is more cohesive compared to the original poster. Good choice of colors too as it looks brighter and it is easier to read the information.
General Feedback: Keep in mind of the background music volume in our future presentations as the music too loud in one of the group presentations that presented for FLIP 2.
Week 5
Smooth video presentation, she likes how we related it with chairs!
