LECTURES
All lectures have been posted up on the practical blogpost together with the weekly tasks.INSTRUCTIONS
Project 2: Motion Graphics
Animated Instructable Poster (Joint with Project 1)
We are to transform the visuals created in the previous project into an animated version of the poster.
Content Planning
Since my poster is sort of simplified, I planned to include all the information that wasn't displayed on my poster in the video.

Storyboard
Applying what I learned for Final Project, I created the layouts of the scenes to plan out my animation flow of the video.

Background Music
I found this song on an Italian Cafe playlist on Spotify. This tune felt just perfect for my video, hence I had to include it in the final output. I managed to find a link to download it.

SFX
I wanted to enhance the cooking processes so I included some SFX. Unfortunately, some of them were not copyright free hence, I have attached those that have copyright claims. The processes in this tutorial were unconventional and they were hard to find for non-copyright audio.

I used basic movements like Scale/Position/Rotation to showcase the graphic fade in/fade out in the animation. Mask paths, range selector, expressions, as well as, the provided effects in the software were used. Track matte was my best friend too as each composition (during the steps 1-4 processes) had to stay within the rounded rectangles heh.
The final animation is then compiled in Premiere Pro together with the bgm and sfx.

Exercise 3: Kinetic Typography
We are to do kinetic typography based on a music video and this exercise is a group work. Mr. Martin mentioned that we should just do simple, basic animations like he showed in class as it is only 5% and we have other bigger projects to worry about.
Group Members:
Yeanne Tung (Group Leader)
Rebecca Thoo
Yi Qing
Zetie (myself)
Shu Huan
Huei Lian
The song that we all agreed upon was Butter by BTS. We all felt that the lyrics and the beat of the song was perfect for this assignment.

Fig 1.8 Split lyrics, Week 2 (11/01/2022) |
We split the lyrics for the text animation and overall have 36 lines excluding the similar lyrics.
Fig 1.9 Lyrics distribution, Week 2 (11/01/2022)
Then the group leader distributed the work among the team members. Since there are 36 lines and there are 6 of us, we will each animate 6 lines from the song.

We found a similar font to the actual font and used the photos above as a reference to our color scheme.

Fig 2.4 Opacity |
The text animations are fairly simple like Mr. Martin taught us in class. I used a null layer as well but it wasn't captured during my workflow. I used basic movement tools like Scale/Rotation/Position/Opacity and incorporated shapes when expressing the text.
Here are my assigned parts to the song.

Exercise 4: Motion Graphic Chart
Fig 2.7 Instructions from Week 3 Lecture Slides |
Fig 2.8 Instructions for the Assigned Motion Graphic Chart |
We are to do a motion graphic chart according to our assigned charts. There were 4 types of charts which are donut, pie, bar and line chart. I was assigned to do option 'D: Line Chart'.
Research
Based on the given link, I looked upon the data that I have to use for the chart.

Design
Following the practical exercise, I applied a similar color scheme to this animated chart. I also looked up stock-free images as a background overlay in the video.

Fig 3.1 Background Photo Search via Unsplash |
I wanted to highlight the ICE detainees from the data so hence, I used keywords like "prison" or "detain" to search for the background photo.
Work In Progress

Fig 3.3 Proportional Grid View for Trim Paths |
Fig 3.4 Track Matte for Text Animation |
I used basic animations in this exercise, applying what Mr. Martin has taught us. I used Trim Paths to animate the lines and the Animator - Range Selector in the case of the X and Y-axis values. Track matte is one of the ways I like to animate text to 'reveal' itself.

FEEDBACK
Week 3Specific Feedback (to the group):
Job well done, surpassed his expectations. Mr. Martin also mentioned the group deserves a 6 on it. (This assignment is worth 5%)
