LECTURES

Week 5: Lecture Notes

Week 5

A pitch bible is a document that helps to deliver our visual ideas. We are to structure our idea from the ideation process that will appeal to our audience.

Week 6

No lectures due to public holiday.

Week 7: Lecture Notes

Week 7

This week, we learned in detail what each section in the pitch bible is supposed to look like.

Week 8

No lectures due to Independent Learning Week.

INSTRUCTIONS

Project 2

In Project 2, we are to produce a pitch bible of our original short animation story based on our personal memory.

Week 6
Tasks:
It is a public holiday. However, Mr Martin instructed us to prepare this before our next class.

  • Character Design + Turnaround
Fig 1.0 Character Design - Attempt 01, Week 6 (3/5/2022)

This is my attempt at designing my character. I am not a great artist, especially in human forms. Hence, this style will not be of a typical anime/Pixar character. There will be a slight quirk to the character's limbs (to hide my weak drawing skills)

Week 7
Class Exercise:

As part of the pitch bible process, we are to write a script. Hence, we learned to use a software called 'Scenarist'. Mr Martin gave us the task of re-writing a script of a scene from the movie Kungfu Panda. This way, we got to learn the ropes of using the software, as well as, the scriptwriting process.

Weeks 9 - 10
Storyboarding Process

I struggled during this process because I didn't understand how to differentiate between the initial story beats and the animated trailer. This process took several rounds of refinement.

FEEDBACK

Week 7
Specific Feedback:

At first, Mr Martin thought the legs were a bit weird. However, after explaining myself, he commended me for working with my strengths in character design. He advised me to refer to my mood board to help me in my character design as a reference. "Is it similar and following the style?"

Week 8
No feedback during Independent Learning Week

Weeks 9/10
Specific Feedback:

The trailer is only 20secs long. I have to reduce the number of selected shots in my storyboard. Focus on peak moments and I want to see more exciting angles/perspectives.

Week 13
Specific Feedback:

Script wise:
  • Change the start to Leia..the girl/she

REFLECTIONS

This assignment was a fun experience to learn the tips and tricks of the pre-production process of an animation. I also realised there are a lot more camera angles/shots that I didn't know of. I hope to apply this knowledge again in my future assignments.
