INSTRUCTIONS
Task 2: Field Study
We are to collect data answering our research questions, as well as, materialize our chosen ideas. We received positive feedback regarding our proposal. Hence, we had a discussion to decide on which ideas are most feasible for us considering the timeframe that we have. After much deliberation with the team, we decided to let go of our projection mapping and paper cutouts (puppets) from our proposed ideas.
Week 4 Progression
Finalized Ideas
Our chosen idea is an interactive poster that links to two other ideas - the virtual game cards and the Instagram story AR filter.
Tasks Delegation
Once we were set on our ideas, the group leader assigned each of us our roles. Since there are three final ideas, all of us were separated in pairs.
Roles:
Rebecca & Yeanne Tung - Virtual True/False Game Cards
Shu Huan & Yi Qing - Interactive Poster
Wanda & Zetie (myself) - Instagram Stories AR Filter
Slides Creation
We used Canva again for our slides deck, keeping the same design layout.
Week 5 Progression
Data Collection
Roles:
All team members
Rebecca - Interview Contact
1. Survey
-Google Form Creation
I helped set up the form and all of us brainstormed the questions. We wanted to make it short and simple to avoid people losing interest in the survey.

2. Interview
Thankfully, my groupmate, Rebecca had known someone overseas in her circle of contacts, and is a Mexican American! We were grateful as the person was willing to be interviewed for our data collection. Due to time differences, we had to conduct the interview via Google Forms as well.
Mockup Progression
My partner Wanda was familiar with producing AR filters for Instagram. Hence, we divided the task into designing and creating the AR filter.
The team feels that Option 1 was more suitable but they preferred the skull in Option 2.
Hence, I merged the ideas and amended them. I decided to apply the paper art 'Papel Picado' instead of the oval-shaped text box.
Feedback from the team suggests I lower down the True/False buttons. I also made an extra version with a timer. I passed on to Wanda for her to proceed on the AR Filter mockup.

General Feedback: (1st Attempt)
General Feedback: (2nd Attempt)
The slides are much more effective now compared to the previous slides. Do remember to mention that the ideas (poster, game card & game filter) are your answers to the RQs.
Working in a group made me discover things outside of my comfort zone. For example, line art is not an art style I would usually lean towards. Since it is the chosen art style for our ideas, I had to go through and produce the visual elements anyway. It was uncomfortable at first, but I managed it and had fun.

FEEDBACK
Week 5General Feedback: (1st Attempt)
- Need a slide after RQs and ROs to explain why the survey and interview were needed.
- Slides 6-20, they are too detailed for a recorded presentation but they will be good for the full PDF submission.
- Slides 21-23 (too wordy). Leave the details for the full PDF (converted from Word file) submission.
- Summarise data effectively for the presentation. There are three conclusion slides. State where the conclusions are made from. Make it clear.
General Feedback: (2nd Attempt)
The slides are much more effective now compared to the previous slides. Do remember to mention that the ideas (poster, game card & game filter) are your answers to the RQs.
REFLECTIONS
Data collection has been an extensive phase of the project. I am glad to be able to apply what I learned in my Design Research Methodology, and also pick up new knowledge. I realized how I have become more detail-oriented as I fact-check every detail in the output of my work. I also try to ensure the designs I put out best represent the chosen culture.Working in a group made me discover things outside of my comfort zone. For example, line art is not an art style I would usually lean towards. Since it is the chosen art style for our ideas, I had to go through and produce the visual elements anyway. It was uncomfortable at first, but I managed it and had fun.
In the midst of celebrating Lunar New Year, my groupmates were still able to give their best in this task. Everyone managed to keep each other on track in our assigned tasks and ensure we submit on time.
